• The first e-book was created by Michael S. Hart in 1971. He digitized the United States Declaration of Independence, which became the first document to be stored in digital format and distributed electronically.

• One of the earliest known female novelists is Murasaki Shikibu, a Japanese writer who lived during the Heian period (794–1185 AD). Her novel "The Tale of Genji," written around the early 11th century, is considered one of the earliest works of long-form prose fiction in the world.
