About
Hi, I’m Hnin! I grew up in Myanmar, and I’ve loved cooking for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would always play around with different ingredients, trying new flavors and making food for my family. Cooking, for me, is not just about making meals—it’s how I show love and care. It brings people together and creates happy memories. Sharing food is a big part of my culture, and it makes me so happy when people enjoy what I cook.
Life has taken me in many directions, but food has always been my passion. Even when I was working in other industries, I always dreamed of doing something with cooking. Now, I run Burma Kitchen in Koh Samui, where I get to share the unique flavors of Burmese food with others.
I love to travel when I can—exploring different countries around Asia and Europe gives me new ideas and inspirations.
Career
I didn’t always work with food. I studied business and even earned my master’s degree in Japan. After that, I spent years working in the corporate world—mostly in marketing and operations. I also started my own company in Yangon, a professional cleaning service called Bumblebee. I had a great team and learned a lot from that experience, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t my true passion.
I was also involved in political activism in Myanmar, which eventually led me to move to Thailand. I settled in Koh Samui, and while I was living there, I started thinking seriously about my love for cooking. At first, I planned to do food deliveries, but then something unexpected happened—a rooftop restaurant space became available. I decided to take a risk and opened Burma Kitchen.
From the beginning, people loved the food. Burmese dishes are not easy to find in Samui, and I work hard to bring authentic, special flavors that remind me of home. In the first few weeks, we already had over 100 five-star reviews! Running a restaurant is not easy, but I enjoy every part of it—cooking, managing the team, and working with local businesses. It’s not just a job for me—it’s something I love doing every day.

Virtual Career Tour: Through video chat, I will walk you through what I do for a living —covering job responsibilities, how to get started, the skills you’ll need, educational paths, insights from my own experience, etc. I'll answer as many of your questions as I can and share practical advice to help you take the next steps if this path aligns with your goals!

While I can share general advice and insights, I am unable to provide region-specific legal, tax, or business setup guidance. However, I can guide you through industry best practices and offer practical steps that are not location-specific.
