About
About me in a nutshell - I am an Interior Designer for Human Houses and Dollhouses.
I have loved Dollhouses ever since I was a little girl and although I didn't hear the term "Interior Designer" until I was in high school, I instantly knew it was for me. I've had a passion for houses - big or small, for as long as I can remember. I used to create vignettes with my toys on top of my dresser when I was a kid and had more houses than Barbies to live in them.
A few fun facts about me include - I'm a mom to an awesome almost-teenage son, Chase, who is my biggest Dollhouse cheerleader (ironically enough), and to a bearded dragon, Charlie. When I'm not "working" you can find me daydreaming on my hammock, out for a walk, or spending quality time with people I love.
I also consider myself a bit of a geographical hybrid as I was born in Concord, New Hampshire and moved to Daytona Beach, Florida as a baby. I returned to New Hampshire for part of Middle School and all of High School, but booked it back to Florida for College. I'm definitely more of a warm-weather gal lol. Although my main residence is Florida, I still have family and friends in New Hampshire and visit every year. Being able to call two completely opposite places home is very special to me and allows me to approach situations that arise with an open mind and different perspectives.
Career
My credentials for Human Houses include over 18 years in the design industry on all types of projects ranging from small renovations or refreshes to multimillion-dollar custom builds, with a hand in selecting hard & soft materials, furniture, lighting, designing custom built-ins and everything in between. I am licensed and have dabbled in commercial work, but my main focus is residential. I would love to do more commercial projects though. I have also done charity work for Kids Sanctuary, event installations at DCOTA (the Design Center of the Americas), and model homes.
One of my biggest accomplishments was winning an award for the renovation of a home theater that happened long-distance during COVID. This project brought along a whole new set of challenges due to COVID, but it was also my first home theater design. So this award was quite a thrill to receive.
I know that taking on a design project can feel very overwhelming for most clients, but that is where I thrive! I love to show them how fun it can be and take control of the steering wheel so they can just kick back and enjoy the ride. I'm blessed to be able to say that I have had amazing clients and many have become close friends, even after a harrowing renovation.
When it comes to Dollhouses, I like to repurpose the same to-the-trade materials that I use in my Human Houses, but reimagine them on a small scale. It's a lot of fun to think outside of the box and use items in a new way! My passion is in the construction and finishing process of a Dollhouse build, although playing with tiny items is really great too. I have done a custom house for a child, but prefer to work on more delicate homes for adults hobbyists. I recently designed my own custom Dollhouse from scratch based on the parameters of a Tiny House and wired it for electricity, which was also a first.
I was a scholarship recipient for the prestigious Guild School, which was awarded by IGMA (International Guild of Miniature Artisans). I am also currently the President of a NAME (National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts) blue ribbon club in South Florida.
